Worker's Compensation

Worker’s Compensation is an insurance plan for employers, and therefore only your Employer may contribute to Worker’s Compensation. Your Employer cannot deduct money from your salary to pay for Worker’s Compensation contributions. However, not all provinces provide Worker’s Compensation Benefits. In those that do, Worker’s Compensation will pay your wages for work that you miss because you have gotten sick or injured while doing your job.

Some provinces require Employers to make contributions to Worker’s Compensation. In some provinces it is optional. For information on provincial requirements for Worker’s Compensation contributions, click here. If you live and work in a province where Worker’s Compensation is optional, you and your Employer should decide whether or not contributions will be made. The decision you and your Employer come to should be included in your contract.
